Exciting things are happening for the Learning Alliances and we couldn’t wait another minute to share our news.

First of all, how do you like our new website? We have worked extensively with DCC Marketing to create our new brand and expand our market reach. We have also expanded our team to include Tawnya L. Mosgrove as our new Marketing Development Director. Tawnya is busy developing our messaging and increased social media policies. I am busy delivering training and working with several organizations on their 2013 strategic plans. This week I have had the unbelievable opportunity to deliver training in Riga, Latvia to a group of Latvian librarians that I first met through the University of Illinois. Look for more information about the trip and pictures in an upcoming blog.

As Learning Alliances finishes up 2012, we are in the 2013 strategic* planning process like many businesses this time of year. As your business projects into 2013, are you taking the time to clearly identify training needs for your employees and leadership team? Many businesses are still tightening their belts in this tough economic time and may determine that the cost of training is just not feasible.

However, study after study indicates that businesses who refrain from offering training opportunities to their staff and leadership team end up losing productivity and revenue. In 2008, IBM wrote a white paper on “The Value of Training…” in which they offered some eye opening statistics (below).

  • Companies in the top quarter in* training expenditure per* employee per year ($1,500 or* more)* average 24% higher profit* margins than companies that* spend less per year.
  • According to a Merrill Lynch study, Motorola estimated that every dollar spent* on training yielded $30 in productivity gainswithin three years.
  • The cost of replacing skilled employees ranges from $75,000 to $450,000.
