Learning Alliances has been in business since 1993 and has been owned by Shirley Smith-Crews since 2010.
Our mission is to collaborate with organizations to create growth and maximize individual potential by delivering people-skills training, business consulting, facilitation, coaching and keynote speeches.
Our vision is to maximize human potential and grow healthy, vibrant organizations regardless of industry or size. We work to motivate change; validate successful behaviors and avert those behaviors thwarting greatest success.
We provide services to our customers in person or virtually – whichever works best for you and your team. We look forward to answering your questions and working to meet your training needs.

Shirley N. Smith-Crews, Owner and Sr. Consultant
A life philosophy of aligning people’s skills and talents at work, fortifies many including the employers’ business, employee job satisfaction, home life and society. This philosophy provided numerous accomplishments in her professional and personal development. Shirley credits her creative style to being born in her parent’s car.
Shirley’s continuous learning-view point has earned her success throughout her professional life. While working in the insurance industry, her experience included assignments in Human Resources, payroll and interviewing, IT business analysis, and project management. She developed expertise in assessing situations, building and maintaining a customized project planning system for assuring project progress and supervision, and serving as liaison between customers and IT employees.
As she moved on to become the first Account Manager for a national information technology consulting company, Shirley was introduced to professional training, where she found she possesses strong skills and talent.
She developed an onboarding program, customized workshops, and experiential learning activities to enhance professional development and work expectations and developed an employee knowledge base to maintain awareness of strengths and gaps as a whole business.
Shirley is a certified trainer in all Everything DiSC® Products, a certified trainer in 5 Behaviors of a Cohesive Team, Playing Your Bigger Game and more. Shirley is a 2016 graduate of Leadership Illinois and was recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in consulting in that same year.
Rob Burn, L&L Solutions
Rob is the founder of L&L Solutions. Leadership, Culture and effective People Processes are the areas of focus that Rob builds with current and potential clients.
Rob built his company on the belief that every organization has a unique competitive advantage: their people. Within his focus areas, Rob specializes in identifying realistic solutions to complex challenges. He partners with organizations and their leaders to maximize performance of all employees, top to bottom and across. He offers practical approaches to complex challenges and works to implement the changes that make the biggest differences.
Rob understands the impact people have on culture and their impact on the bottom line and performance of organizations. He has worked for and provided solutions for Fortune 500 and privately held companies in the following industries: manufacturing, social service, health care, education, government, insurance and professional services.
His background and experience allow him to craft solutions that take the needs of the business, human resources, and organization development into consideration. He meets organizations where they are and offers solutions in the areas of coaching, management and leadership effectiveness training, organizational development systems and human resource processes.
Rob has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Illinois State University and an MBA from Morris Graduate School of Business. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) through the Human Resource Certification Institute and a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) through the Society of Human Resource Management.
Ruth G. Stauffer, Owner of RG Stauffer Consulting
Ruth consults with startup organizations and existing small businesses to help them plan for growth and success, and to manage the day-to-day tasks of running a business.
Her vast experience in business development, technical sales, and hospitality provides an extensive knowledge for growth and expansion. Grant writing, business plan development, and marketing are her focus with current clients.
She assists Learning Alliances in organizing Microsoft 365 SharePoint, OneNote files and processes. At Learning Alliances, Ruth enjoys the variety of assignments and projects: understanding and performing what is needed by the business owner, Shirley. Ruth retired as Executive Director of an economic development organization, and now enjoys time with her three grandsons in her free time.
