My Way is the Best
My Way is the Best
The Circle of Courage relates to how Native Americans reared the children of the village.* Native Americans taught their children to be courageous
and respectful without using harsh and coercive* controls.
The four philosophies were ignored by others because there was a mentality of, “my way is the best”.* How often do we see and hear this in our workplace?* There’s an unhealthy competition of ego that gets in the way of hearing all ideas before decisions are made.* I know that there are times decisions must be made for continuous momentum.* I also know that in America, if slowed down just a bit, we could take the time to be more accurate, more productive, happier and maybe even safer.
If you are guilty of forcing your ideas on others because you have the authority, the experience and/or the title, you are building an organization that has an unhealthy competitive culture.* Eventually, when you ask questions, no one answers because it doesn’t matter.* Eventually, you will only hear about problems when they are so critical that they are nearly unmanageable to fix.* Others will withhold information from you and their co-workers which serves no one.
Consider these four principles whether you are the leader with the title or the leader by behaviors to build a work environment that is more productive, more quality and safer.
